Oral surgery includes the following interventions:
Tooth extraction involves the removal of a tooth from the alveoli (bone cup). This procedure is usually routine, but can sometimes require an oral surgical approach. This is most often the case when wisdom tooth extraction is required, or with any other impacted tooth, residual root, etc. However, for a professional dentist, wisdom tooth extraction is a routine procedure, and therefore the patient has no reason to be afraid.
Wisdom teeth are teeth that grow between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five. But sometimes they don’t grow at all. Of all the permanent teeth that appear in the jaw, they emerge last.
Wisdom teeth represent molars and in colloquial speech it is not uncommon to call them eights. This is logical, because in the low of eight teeth in the jaw, these teeth represent the last. On all four sides of the jawbones, wisdom teeth develop and grow. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for these teeth to cause certain problems because they are curved.
Wisdom teeth grow to border the jaw and their function is to maintain the shape of the jaw. It is not often that wisdom teeth are used for chewing, although they can replace non-existent weeks, if they go down.
Wisdom tooth extraction surgery
The pain in the wisdom tooth can spread to the ear and is very unpleasant. Therefore, as a solution to the problem of poorly fused wisdom teeth, we recommend surgery. No operation is pleasant, but we can encourage you because you will have a lot of relief afterwards.
The exact duration of the intervention itself can never be known, but the procedure itself is painless because it is performed with obligatory anesthesia.
Apicotomy is a surgical intervention that is performed under local anesthesia, and during which the top of the root is cut off and the pathological process (purulent formation) that was created on it is removed. In that process, the formed periapical processes or cysts are usually eliminated. Apicotomy prolongs the life of teeth and prevents their premature loss.
Implantology is one of the most popular areas of dentistry today. Implants are biocompatible tooth root substitutes that are implanted in the bone. They almost completely replace the lost tooth, without the need to grind the neighboring ones, and they can be used in cases of loss of one or all teeth. Implant placement is one of the most modern dental procedures.
Frenectomy is a surgical procedure that removes the frenulum that connects the upper or lower lip to the gums, as well as the villi that connects the tongue to the floor of the oral cavity. Frenulas are fibrous formations in the oral cavity, better known as “fringes”. Their function is to limit excessive movement. However, sometimes they can be more pronounced, which leads to certain consequences. There are two methods for removing the frenulum, ie frenectomy: surgical method and laser frenectomy.
Cysts are patological cavities coated with tissue and filled with liquid. They can develop in both jaws and in the soft tissue (mouth, cheek) .
Dental cysts appear as a reaction of your organism to the constant infection that comes through the dental pulp which is infected. They can appear around the crown of a not yet grown tooth, during trauma..
If there are multiple infected teeth a cyst can appear on each of them. People with bad oral hygiene have more chances for cyst appearance.
Oftenly, there are no symptoms until the cyst reaches a certain size or it comes to a state of an acute infection. Symptoms are: changes in tooth color, hard bulge on the bone above the tooth, pain, swelling, tooth redness, root fistula, nasal discharge.
Consequences of cyst growth: surrounding bone resorption, damage on surrounding teeth, acute infection that could cause the swelling of your face and pain. Also, cysts can also affect your sinuses and nose.
Treatment and surgery of cysts
The treatment of a cyst is very demanding, and sometimes it is not possible to make it with medication. Therefore, surgery is one of the best solutions, and sometimes the only one. The cyst can be operated on in two very similar ways, namely cystostomy and cystectomy. Both methods involve local anesthesia, but during the cystostomy, the cyst is partially removed, but it is also necessary to remove part of the bone. This is a solution that is applied when the cyst grows quite large.
Cyst surgery with the second method is the removal of the entire cyst from one. Sometimes it happens that the operation is done by laser. The swelling after the operation exists, but it is usually not longer than two to three days and very often the wound must be sutured. The thread is removed after only a few days.
In places where tooth loss has occurred, there is a gradual loss of alveolar bone over time. This can be a problem when it comes to implant placement. In order to provide enough bone tissue when implant placement is planned, augmentation procedures are performed, ie implantation of artificial bone.
Sinus lift is a surgical procedure that increases the height of the jawbone in the lateral regions of the upper jaw, in the region of the premolars and molars, by raising the membrane on the lower edge of the maxillary sinus, which creates a post for artificial bone which is then placed. If implant placement is planned in the lateral regions of the upper jaw, and the patient does not have enough bone to accommodate the implant and its adequate osseointegration, then sinus lift intervention can be performed beforehand to provide sufficient bone to accommodate the implant.
